WHAT TO ASK A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER BEFORE YOU BOOK THEM

Once you’ve found a selection of photographers who seem to be ‘your type on paper’, before booking them and handing them your cash, there are a few questions you’ll want to ask to make sure they’re the right photographer for you.

Wedding Photographer

Probably an obvious one, but ask them if they’re available on your wedding date

Ask them if they’ve got any other weddings over that week/weekend

Will it be just them or do they work with an assistant? And, if they work with an assistant and you would like to meet them too, ask

Research your photographer by using their website and reading reviews. If you can’t find out something you'd like to know, ask them. Things such as 'their background in photography', 'how many weddings they have done' and 'how long they have they been in the business for' - are great questions

Have they shot a wedding at your venue(s) before?

Describe to them your wedding style and exactly what you want to get from your photos to see if they have done a wedding similar to the one you are planning

If you want specific shots, ask them if they’ll do them. Don’t be afraid to show them wedding photos you’ve seen and would like to recreate

How long will they be shooting for? Let them know if you want them to be there all day from the bridal prep right the way up to the first dance. They’ll want to accommodate you and you’ll be able to find out the costings for different amounts of time

Do they also offer video? Or any other products such as photo booth?

What kind of packages do they offer? Do they offer an engagement shoot or pre-wedding shoot?

How will you receive the finished product? How long will it take to receive the images?

Do they charge for travel on top of their prices?

Would they agree to meeting you at the venue prior to your big day for a bit of a run through?

How much deposit do they require?
